Most homes are on the cusp of energy transformation driven by the rapidly falling cost of solar panels, soaring electricity bills which together are seeing homes switching to solar powered equipment.
Traditionally viewed as a fall-back option, solar power is being embraced with open hands by most households.
It has been this appetite that has seen large companies inverting modern technologies which use solar energy like solar powered laptops, refrigerators, cookers, solar water heating systems and many more.
how to install solar panel on rooftop
Checkout the below video to learn how to install solar panel on rooftop.
Now, let’s look at the 6 tools which are a must to have in order to install solar panels.
Whatever the case, safety is the number one thing when installing the solar panels. You can simplify the installation of the solar panel especially on the roof by getting a reliable ladder.
The general properties of a ladder should have a good clearance from the roof to the underside of the stile.
This enables the installer to have plenty of space. The ladder is simply rolled up the roof on its rubber wheel and flipped to an appropriate angle over the ridge.
The hooks on the rudder can be fixed to any rung, assisting the ladder to fit to any roof the excess length passing the ridge.
2: Angle Finder
This tool is used to get the right angle for your solar panel. The solar panels need to be angled towards the sun and the maximum angle depends on the season. This tool indicates the difference in sun height on monthly basis.
The sun is at its optimum when it’s at solar noon each day and the calculator will show the angle at that time of the day.
Therefore, the solar panels need to be faced where you can get the sun when it’s at optimum for them to receive the required sunlight to work efficiently.
3: Fish Tape
When all the installations are finished, the wiring is required as well as electrical connections. The tape is just a reel of stiff wire that is connected through installed conduit runs.
It’s used to pull system wiring through the conduit. Using this tape and a wire pulling device will complete the job.
Pulling the tape involves pressing a button or pull a lever on. This will release the tape and you can just pull it out of the wheel. You then put the tape into the conduit as you unwind the wheel.
When the tape comes out of the other side, someone can attach wires to the end of the tape which has a hook. Then you pull the tape back with the wire.
The critical part in installing the solar panels is drilling the holes. You need to have the perfect holes and it can be quite challenging to drill the holes in the rails while working on the roof.
Getting straight holes with a wrong drilling machine is almost impossible. Some opt to just measure the location of each hole at each angle and improvise which can lower the quality of work.
Drilling holes is possibly the most important part of the solar panel installation, therefore, use the electric corded drill which has 3/8″ chuck. You need this drill machine because it has both the right power and speed.
Also keep in your mind that you should have also steel drill bits to drill a hole.
5: Caulk Gun
The drilled holes on the roof need to be refilled and this is where a caulk gun comes into play. A caulking gun is used to seal cracks on your roof. They have a sealant called caulk which will fill up the holes.
There are three different types of caulk guns which are ratchet rod caulk gun, smooth rod dripless caulk gun and electric caulk gun.
The ratchet rod caulk gun is easily available in the local hardware shops. It works on pressure and you can turn it upside down to block the caulk from moving.
The caulk cartridge can be opened by cutting it open with a knife.
6: Torque Wrench
In rack installation, the racking and module installation are the same for different mounting types. You can use a torque wrench or socket wrench> to install all the bolts.
A saw can also be used to install the rails long on one side of the array and trim to size so that they can fit once all of the modules are installed.
After installing structural supports, the racking and module installation is similar for each of the different mounting types. It is common to need only one socket size for the entire racking installation.
Many manufacturers recommend a torque wrench to install all of the bolts. A torque wrench is a tool which is used to exert the exact force to a fastener and in this case the nuts and bolts.
You should also have screw extractor if anchor or nail get stuck.
Indeed the energy revolution has been massive, like a landslide. It’s no longer about energy, it’s a fashion statement.
