To a playing of your child was more believable, the game with tools can be supplemented with an image.
When there is a problem in a sandbox it is necessary to have all the plastic tools at hand. So, your little master will not let the team down if you make a tool belt for him/her.
It is not difficult, just as it is easy to make an adult tool belt. And I will tell you in detail how to make a tool belt for child easily.
Things You Need During the Kid Tool Belt Making
Of course, you need material that will serve as the basis for the future of the tool belt. You can use any convenient material from the canvas to the leather.
Many parents try to use a canvas with a child’s drawing. But I think that there is nothing better than “like the real.”
The work requires a little material, half a yard. By the way, even this size is quite enough. I take this size to cover all possible childish waist sizes.
In addition to the main material, you will need a thinner canvas, elastic bands a quarter of a yard. Of course, parts of the canvas need to be attached to sewing accessories such as threads.
Have measuring instruments and scissors at yourself, as well as a good mood, so that the gift for the child is even better.
How to Make A Tool Belt For Child Easily?
Step 1 – Measuring Of Waist
Not to make an approximate size, start by measuring the waist of the child. If you are preparing a surprise, then it makes sense to measure the width of a T-shirt or pants.
However, when measuring and making the tool belt, mind that the child will use the belt over the clothes. Therefore, the option of measuring the size of the pants will be more effective. And the bulky pants, the better.
Step 2 – Preparation of Patterns for the Future Tool Belt
In my opinion, this part of the work is the most difficult, since it requires the calculational skill.
I have no such skill, but I know for sure that your kid’s waist is 24 inches, then you need to leave an additional canvas on the seams for half an inch.
Add to this the elastic band, which is usually placed behind. You need 19 inches of canvas to make the belt.
Now we have the calculations and turn to the making of the pattern. It is a step-by-step work, which is the following 4 steps:
- It is necessary to cut 2 pieces of the main material for making the belt (as you remember, it is 19 inches).
- For inserts, you will need 2 more parts, (if you plan to do inserts).
- The presence of an elastic band requires 1 part of a 6-inch material.
- A loop placement requires 2 parts of the main material. Count on placing several loops, for example, five. Each loop must be at least 2 inches in length.
By the way, sometimes it is better to add an extra inch to make an elastic band. This extra inch is needed for fastening. In other words, there will be a seam.
The seam is not located in the main part will firmly hold the elastic band and will not let it slip. However, if necessary, you can always remove an extra inch.
Step 3 – Get a Base and Pockets on Each Other
To continue making the kid tool belt, we need to overlap the pieces so that we get a seamless layout.
It is important because we can detect errors and fix them at this stage because later it will be too late.
Do not worry if the size of the main part will be slightly different from the size of the pocket after you cut out the pieces.
If so, then there is no problem. The main thing is that the length of the main part and the length of the pocket make up half of the length of the waist. In this situation, you will get a small (even a small) pocket.
It is quite enough for children from 3 years. Surely, if your child is older, it makes sense to increase the size of the cut-out parts. To do this, add three inches to the outside.
Step 4 – Begin to Sew All Parts
If everything is OK, then we are ready to apply the first seam. We will fasten the front pocket with a needle and thread.
Using a sewing machine, try to approach the line as close as possible, but not to it. Then just cut the extra threads. Now you must get the base of the future tool belt.
We move to another part – the making of the belt. To make the result attractive, you need to attach the loops to your belt before you sew a pocket to it.
On the reverse side, make a seam so that the belt represents a single line. Also make a seam on its width on one side, leaving the other in the not sewn state.
It is necessary to unscrew the belt on the front side. This technique will allow you to hide stitches.
Now you can attach the loops that were made in the same way as the belt. At the end, sew the remaining width of the belt.
To the obtained basis, we need to add a belt. For simplicity, I suggest you use velcro. Before stitching the belt and pocket, determine where the pocket will be – side or center.
After determining the specific location of future tools, it is necessary to make a storage system.
To do this, put pieces of pockets on top of each other and stitch it, starting from the right side. Stitch from all four sides but remember that the swivel seam should be 2 inches.
After that, you need to make the resulting pocket is sewn to pieces of another pocket and fastened on the sides and bottom.
